The times are changing in the Baltic States and the political class in Tallinn has been shaken by the polls that have just come out ahead of Estonia’s next Parliamentary election.
The nationalist Estonian Conservative People’s Party (EKRE) has now taken the lead nationally with over 26% of the vote and the party is growing among not just the Estonian majority but the Russian community in Estonia.
EKRE has risen due to a number of factors, the economy is not performing well for many ordinary Estonians and the decision by the Reform Party to go into a grand coalition with the scandal ridden Center Party continues to be an unpopular one.
Vaccine passports in Estonia have been an incredibly unpopular thing among most of the Estonian electorate as well and there has been a strong fight across the ethnic divide against these vaccine mandates.
EKRE has seen a considerable jump in support among Estonia’s ethnic Russians and it has caused incredible anxiety among Estonia’s political elites.
People in the Estonian government close to Prime Minister Kaja Kallas have been so eager to try to act like Estonia’s ethnic Russians are just shitlibs who embrace globohomo. But EKRE has been gaining support at the expense of the Center Party, which has been the party Estonia’s ethnic Russians traditionally voted for.
You would be forgiven for thinking a political class who claims to have learned the lessons from the events in Crimea would understand that, but no one ever alleged the Estonian ruling class was intelligent.

The Estonian nationalist party EKRE takes a pragmatic approach to relations with Russia and seeks eventually to have a relationship with them similar to what Finland has with Russia now. The party rejects these attempts by the West to impose some sort of liberal dystopia on Russia.
The more pro “Israel” factions in EKRE have backtracked more on their support for “Israel” and more critical factions are gaining more support.
EKRE has taken an increasingly critical view of the Covid-19 vaccines especially as it is clear they don’t work and they are strongly against the vaccine passports.
The strongest voice on the vaccines and the consequences they have had has been MP Kalle Grunthal, who has been a voice for the voiceless who have suffered in Estonia from these vaccines. He also seeks to criminalize vaccine mandates in Estonia and the party strongly supports that.
