Tens of thousands of Americans die every year from opioid overdoses and it is the leading cause of death for Americans under the age of 50. The situation is utterly catastrophic and we remain very far from winning this fight against this opioid epidemic.
Contrary to what many think and expect, the most dangerous drug dealers are not the violent sadistic psychopaths in the drug cartels from our southern neighbor. They are open, transparently evil, they can only get their drugs in through illegal means such as crossing the border, paying people to smuggle it, and things like that. Often as well, they get caught, and jailed.
A transparent evil enemy who can only smuggle a weapon of some kind in is far less dangerous than an enemy who hides in the shadows, who bribes the right people to get their weapon to ordinary people, who does it legally, albeit using covert means to get it allowed.
We remain far from seeing the demise of the transparent evil enemy as well as the enemy who hides in the shadows bribing the right people and getting their weapon legally sold.
However on Monday, a very good bit of news happened regarding the latter. Jonathan Sackler, from the Jewish family who runs Purdue Pharma, which made the deadly opioid oxycontin, has died. According to court filings, Jonathan Sackler has been dead since June 30th, but it was only announced today. The blood soaked Jonathan Sackler died at the age of 65 from cancer.
Purdue Pharma, currently faces thousands of lawsuits from families of those who overdosed on opioids, as well as local, and state governments, all of whom rightly blame the company and the Sackler family for the opioid epidemic we see today.
Oxycontin is regularly prescribed to those who are facing excruciating pain, usually from a surgery they just had. All so often it then leads to a vicious cycle of addiction to avoid withdraws from the potent drug, they look for cheaper and more potent alternatives including crack, heroin, and fentanyl. The overwhelming majority of drug users in the country today can trace the beginnings to being prescribed opioids like oxycontin.
The more prescriptions in an area, you will always see that there is a larger rate of overdose.
Healthcare providers wrote over 190 million prescriptions for opioid pain, or 58.7 per 100 Americans. Over half the country is medicated just with pain killers.
Just short of half of those prescriptions have been far larger than what official guidelines tell healthcare providers to prescribe.
The CDC reported that a staggering 11.5 million Americans misuse the opioids they were prescribed, as the withdraws lead to them demanding more and more and more.
The Sackler family as aggressively as they could, pushed their opioid oxycontin on those who simply had no use for it. They successfully were able to corrupt the supply chain.
The Sackler family was exposed as playing down the potency of their flag ship opioid trying to cover up how it was as potent as morphine. Not only that oxycodone, the ingredient in oxycontin is 50% more potent than morphine. They got special permission from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market this potent drug as a drug that wasn’t easily prone to abuse.
The FDA examiner who made this claim that a drug that at a minimum has a 21% addiction rate, soon left the FDA and took a job at Purdue Pharma. With those in high school it is over 3 times worse than the 21% rate over all.
In 2015, Barack Obama’s FDA gave Purdue Pharma the approval to market the drug to children as young as 11.
Purdue bribed politicians with campaign donations, they bribed academics and medical journals to write false information about it, they targeted areas of the country with high work place injury totals, and they targeted doctors who prescribed the most.
In some parts of the country there are more prescriptions than even population of the whole area.
They were successful at prescribing more doses which of course led to the victim having withdraws so they had to take another to be at ease again.
Purdue made a new formula that made it far worse. A third of users switched to other drugs and a further 70% began to use heroin.
In 2013 the FDA agreed to let Purdue Pharma have the complete monopoly on the opioid.
This evil family is heavily responsible for the opioid crisis and they have the blood of tens of thousands on their hands. The only good Purdue Pharma Sackler is a dead one.
