The Foreign Ministers of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) a Portuguese equivalent to the British Commonwealth has approved a catastrophic proposal with ramifications for the nation states and peoples of the European Union. The final proposal will have to be ratified at a CPLP summit in the Angolan capital soon.
The proposal would have the goal of ensuring free movement for all peoples in the Portuguese speaking nations with the goal of “transforming a community of countries into a community of people who can feel integrated,” according to Rui Figueiredo Soares, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cape Verde.
According to Soares the proposal seeks to be flexible and to cater to the needs of each nation in order to ensure the movement of people of the Portuguese speaking nations.
Cape Verde’s Ambassador Euricio Montiero said this is in order to ensure the “partnerships between Member States according to their interests and their internal constraints.
The members of the CPLP are Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, and East Timor.
If the deal is implemented then due to Portugal’s membership in the European Union it will open up the flood gates to millions from some of the most violent countries in the world including war torn Mozambique. While Portugal has its genuine cultural and linguistic connections to these countries, their actions are going to effect the whole of the European Union.
