Since April 28th, Colombians have been on a massive scale in total revolt against the system, and the system forces have gone to war with the people.
The situation began amid astronomical fury at the system for a proposed tax reform bill by President Ivan Duque. For much of the last year Colombia has been in lockdown because of Covid-19 and of course the lockdowns have been absolutely devastating for the economy, for people’s livelihoods, and standard of living.
The monstrosity of a tax reform bill would have had salaries of $656 or more taxed. 19% tax for public services which have become even more important because the private economy has been shattered by the system’s lockdowns. For everything such as bicycles, tablets, cellphones, computers, the internet, and more, the taxes would have been raised. Amid this the prices for almost everything have been rising and they sought to worsen that by raising gas taxes.
However the weapons of the system were not taxed and if you think especially now they are being used to fight groups like the ELN, you are mistaken. When the Colombian military has the will to carry out counter insurgency operations and truly wage war against the communist narcoterrorist groups, they do a very damn good job at it, but peace isn’t profitable for the system, whether the peace comes through a negotiated settlement, as in the case with FARC, or a military solution, as Duque wants people to think he is seeking.
With poverty at 42.5%, the economy in utter devastation, with discontent boiling to the service, it makes sense why in the middle of the health crisis, that he added nearly $1 billion more in defense spending.
The protests have largely been peaceful but the system had almost immediately started to violently crackdown hard. However, President Duque thought a tactical retreat on the tax reform would work but it didn’t as it was too little too late.
The public’s fury only grew and it targeted the whole corrupt system which has plundered, what should be a very prosperous country in South America.
Since then the system has legitimately been in a state of war with the people with the scenes in cities like Bogota more resembling Kandahar during many of the worst periods of the conflict in Afghanistan.

Paramedics who try to help people who have been injured because of the system’s war with the people have been attacked, shot at, and threatened.
The revolt isn’t just against the Duque government, Bogota’s lefty Mayor Claudia Lopez is deeply loathed as well for her role in the crackdown as well.
Since the revolt happened and the subsequent war against the people has ensued, dozens have been martyred and hundreds have been injured.
